The Diet Diaries #3 Weigh In & Confessions

You may or may not have already read that I am on a weight loss mission! I was sent a seven day supply of meal replacement products from The NewYou Plan (review coming soon!) which ended on Friday.
Last Saturday I made the BIG mistake of not weighing myself to see what my exact starting weight was. I didn't check how much I weighed until Monday and on Friday I weighed myself again. I was   disappointed at my loss of 4lbs, I know a loss is a loss right? But after eating powdered products and meal replacement bars for  seven days I was hoping I'd shifted more pounds! I'm assuming that it could have been a higher loss as I didn't weigh myself on the day I started, however I won't know for sure.
When I started, I said to myself I would see how I found it and would continue on The New You Plan depending on how I found it. After weighing myself I was determined to stick at it and priced up their bundles on the website. I knew they offered next day delivery so on Friday I selected my products with a 7 week bundle and placed my order.
Unfortunately next day delivery doesn't apply to Saturdays, so what have I been doing over the past two days? Here's the confessions...
On Saturday I had a shake that  was left over from a previous plan for breakfast. I met a friend for a walk and we had lunch. I opted for tuna salad, certainly not the worst thing I could've selected from the menu! In the evening I had a couple of mini naan breads.
Sunday morning I ate some mango for breakfast and actually went out for lunch. I ate grilled salmon, jacket potato and veg. I figured I will be on the plan for the next 7 weeks (at least) so didn't want to starve myself whilst I waited for my New You delivery to arrive! I was naughty last night and finished off a handful of peanut M&Ms from a pack I'd bought before the weight loss mission, 'tut tut'!
I'm really determined to lose weight and I'm looking forward to getting back on The New You Plan when it arrives tomorrow!

The Diet Diaries #2 A Day On The New You Plan

Yesterday was day two on The New You Plan, I won't lie it was bloody hard!!! I popped over to my parents, my mum had cooked up a Sunday roast which looked and smelt amazing! Especially the roast potatoes! I could have very easily said "sod it" I'll have some but I didn't. I sat down with everyone and ate my bowl of vegetable chilli. It was actually really nice, spicy and tasty. I'm so glad I didn't give in.
I thought I'd share what I ate today and how I've been feeling in regards to hunger. For a total food replacement programme, there really is a great range to choose from!
For breakfast I had the apple and cinnamon porridge, I much preferred it to the original oatmeal porridge. You can taste the cinnamon and it has little bits of apple. I will definitely purchase these if I continue on the New You Plan.

I ate lunch about 1pm and was feeling hungry at this point. I decided to have one of the meals and went for pasta carbonara. I do love my carbs so I was happy that there were real pasta pieces. I really enjoyed this,'it's probably my favourite meal so far. I loved that I was actually eating pasta (albeit a very small portion) and again I would buy this.

We went shopping with my mum this afternoon, around half four I began to feel hungry, as I was busy browsing I ignored it but soon felt starving and a little light headed.
So I sat down and enjoyed the dark chocolate truffa bar and I mean REALLY enjoyed it! Things always taste so much better when you're hungry! In my books you can't beat a chocolate based 'meal' so these are going down pretty well!

As there was a shorter time period between the last two meals I didn't feel hungry. For the final meal I had a mushroom soup with freshly ground black pepper. I drank it out of a mug this eve instead of putting it in a bowl. It's a watery soup so I preferred drinking it of a mug.

Whilst we were out I weighed myself in Boots and as I expected I'm the heaviest I've ever been. It's pretty depressing but seeing how much I weighed has made me more determined. I'm pretty disgusted at my current weight, if I don't do something about it I will only get heavier.

The Diet Diaries #1 A Little Intro

My weight has been the bane of my life since I can remember, right now I'm the heaviest I've ever been and it's time for me to do something about it. In the past I've had failed and successful attempts when losing weight. This time I really want it to be a success, that's why I'm starting a series on my blog and YouTube channel. I think they will help me stay on track and hopefully, at some point be  helpful to others embarking on a weight loss journey. If you have any tips for staying motivated or you are blogging/vlogging your own weight loss, I would love to hear from you!
Today I started The New You Plan, a meal replacement programme, look out for a review soon! I filmed my first Diet Diaries video which explains my aims, including exercise. I would love you to pop over and subscribe to my channel if you're not already :) Starting and maintaining a diet/healthier lifestyle is never easy as there are old habits that need to be broken.

My Sunday Photo 17/5/15 Selfie Fail

If you follow me on Instagram or facebook, you may have already seen this blurry pic! We were in the lift at Wagamamas and I attempted to capture a family selfie, getting Eliot to look in the mirror was a bit of a challenge. And this was one of the (failed) results! Still a nice little memory in my opinion!

It's heating up, don't forget your pets!

Before they had a garden...
I'm one of those irritating people that complains when the weather is cold, wet and miserable but also when it gets too hot. Don't get me wrong I love a bit of sun, we've had some glorious weather over the past couple of weeks which has been fab. I just can't stand those sweltering summer nights, it's so uncomfortable! I'd rather be too cold than too hot. I have always thought if I feel uncomfortable with the heat, then Eliot will do too so I dress him minimally.
I think the same also applies for our pets. If you didn't already know we have two cats, Mimi and Coco. When we lived in London our flat was on the fourth floor so needless to say, they were indoor cats.
Since we've moved they've been curious about going outside and have enjoyed spending time in the garden especially when the weather has been good. I'm sure over the summer months they'll be keen to spend more of their time outdoors which has led me to consider how I can keep them safe in the hot weather. We don't have a cat flap or plans to put one in anytime soon, mainly because the doors that lead t the garden are glass and we don't want one on the front door. So, there may be times they will be outside longer than planned. I've thought about how they could stay shaded in this situation as there is little shade in our back garden. Our next door neighbours have four cats,  they have a cat box in their garden that a family member built for them. It's somewhere where their kitties can shelter come rain or shine. A cat box of some sort could be a possibility for our garden but we have lots of other jobs that need doing so it may not happen  in time for this summer!
With that in mind I've thought of some tips to help keep felines safe in the sun...
  • Frequently change water bowls & ensure they are kept topped up with fresh water
  • Leave a bowl of water outdoors in a shaded area
  •  Make sure there is a shaded area in the garden, use cloth or similar materials to create somewhere if you have little or no shade
  • I read that dampened towels are a good idea in extreme heat, rub the towel from head to tail over your cat to help cool them down.
  • Dampened towels could also be left on the floor so cats can lay on them if they wish
  • I've also read sunblock is a good idea to use on cats ears particularly if they have a fair coat
  • If you need to travel with your cat in the car, ensure there is ventilation, water to hand and like dogs never leave them in a car alone
  • Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke. Even if your cat is indoors they can still be affected
